It has been mild today, but if you are using fresh fuel it will be winter grade and therefore vaporise much too readily. Static pressure in the tank would only help the pump feed the engine.

I'm thinking that it is the fuel pump's job to deliver all the required fuel under pressure, not the tank's! Most gas caps have valves fitted that automatically release the vacuum at optimum pressure. Removing the cap enables the car to run, but this solution should not be a long-term fix.
If I fill my tank and pull into my driveway, gasoline will start escaping past the fuel cap about 1/2 hour after I park.
This greatly increases fire danger. If this sensor isn’t working correctly the computer gets false information and turns on the check engine light.
