This question may have been already asked, but even after trying to figure out during litteraly 30 minutes and looking everywhere on the net, i am still struggling to understand what's the best way to use tobira. There is almost always a hidden account wall or paywall. Eh, I think people overhype the jump to Tobira.
Studying. Tobira looks more interesting on the surface but I need a grammar/kanji/everything refresh before I get stuck in. And then all will be well. If you study both enough, do the appropriate amount of listening comprehension and reading comprehension, then you should be able to pass N3. Does that mean there's litteraly no correction if you're self learning and that you have to kinda deal with it ? very very interesting thank you very much. Integrated is more modern and better presented in a style that will be familiar to you if you went through Genki. The second route is to read the dialog in the chapter flat-out, as it is, and see if you can figure out the vocabulary and grammar out of context and then use those vocabulary lists and grammar lists as reinforcements. Tobira has a lot of grammar points and things to read, whereas Shin Kanzen is basically just for quizzing and refreshing grammar points. In the six months or so before the test, I read Tobira, all 5 Sou Matome N3 books, and Shin Kanzen Master N3 Bunpou (because I thought grammar was my weakest area). If your main goal is to pass N3 I recommend shin kanzen master. Out of curiosity, how do they go about explaining grammar points in an all japanese textbook. While Tobira is much more of a fully rounded textbook. I don’t understand Chinese grammar as a native speaker because I’ve never bothered to actively think about it. Very excited atm. Also, I said I don't want to practice for the JLPT for 2 reasons: The books that have as primary goal to prepare you for exams, they don't teach a language that well, because they try to teach tricks and patterns to answer the questions faster and more efficiently. authentic japanese + rapid reading japanese is the next (and almost last) step. I personally going to study this books along with rapid Japanese as my final books after I finish tobira. At this point, I don't care if it's a PDF, eBook, Kindle or nook format -- I just want an easy way to review material during downtime at work. Tobira had more interesting reading topics than Sou Matome dokkai, but SM dokkai gives you more than just articles/essays (like reading letters, signs, emails, etc.). When you think you've understood them well, you can go back and read the dialog in the chapter of the vocab/grammar you've just read and see if you understand it 100%. I only did it because I wanted another source to refresh N3 grammar.

Don't give up on textbook learning yet, tobira is not enough to jump into the native material world while authentic japanese is.Tobira teaches you how to understand japanese for real in specific situations but you get lost easily when rules are broken, Authentic japanese teaches you how to understand japanese for real even when the japanese used stray away from what you've learned. Honestly, I doubt there's much of a difference. I would hate to have to not go with it and have to look up and buy AIATIJ considering i already have tobira and how much people tell its vastly inferior, and all of that because i'm maybe a little bit to dumb to understand how to use it, If someone who used it and completed it know whats the best way to use this book.
