The Nestucca River originates in the northern Oregon Coast Range and flows 50 miles, draining the western slope of range in Yamhill and Tillamook Counties. March 12, 2019. The river flows generally west through Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land and the Siuslaw National Forest, past Beaver, then southwest past Hebo and Cloverdale. It drains a timber-producing area of the Northern Oregon Coast Range west of Portland. The Byway is open year-round but may become hazardous due to snow and ice. Dovre is closed for the 2020 camping season, but will reopen next spring. Seen as barren by the first explorers to today's first-time visitors, the rivers of the high desert simply hide their treasures well. Nestucca Bay is a bay formed by the confluence of the Nestucca River and the Pacific Ocean in northwest Oregon in the United States. This 15.5 mile section of the Nestucca River is a key feature of the larger Nestucca River Recreation Area.
