Because the expanded spell options are such an important part of the dragonmarks, if you're not playing a spellcaster you're giving up a huge part of your racial traits, which makes it exceptionally difficult to justify playing a dragonmark character who can't cast spells. Unless you want to do something specific with your character, you probably ought to stay totally in Monk. Darkness can be an annoyance to a Melee heavy party, but like others here have mentioned it has a ton of versatility in what you cast it on. Martial Arts: Martial Arts is why you play a Monk.
